Our
society suffers from a very sad reality: Lack of personal time.
If you have a full time job, and you have kids, there goes your
24 hours! You're up early getting the kids ready for school, getting
yourself ready for work, as well as helping your spouse have breakfast
before rushing out of the house. If you are a full time student,
there goes your 24 hours.
I
know how hard it can be to make time for yourself. The only way
you can fit personal time into your schedule is if you make it
a goal. Why should you make exercising a goal? Well, you love
your body, and you want to keep it healthy.
Many
people misunderstand exercise. A good number of people think that
exercising means losing weight, and they're not too far off, but
there is much more to it than just weight loss.
Exercising
can even make you gain weight, depending on what it is you are
doing. Let's not concentrate on weight. Let's concentrate on health.
If you do weight training twice a week, there is a high probability
you will not lose weight, but you will lose body fat and gain
muscle. This is important. I remember a coworker complaining about
working out so hard that she did not lose any weight. She had
been going to the gym for 2 months, everyday, and spending 30-45
minutes working out. Some days she would do strictly aerobics,
some days weight training. Her weight was about the same as when
she had begun to attend the gym. While talking to her about this
issue, I asked myself: "Does this woman have a mirror at
home? Maybe I can give her one for Christmas!!!!" She looked
great. Two months had changed the shape of her body, and she was
more energetic and fit everyday that went by. Did she not realize
this? This is what I mean by concentrating on weight loss. Forget
about your weight. You can lose 20 pounds and not be fit, or you
can weigh the same and have muscle defined, and most of all "fit".
This is what you should worry about.
Exercising
is essential. It plays just as an important role as your diet.
I realized this when I was eating as healthy as I could, but my
body was not "shaped" as I wished it were. I still did
not feel fit, and my energy level was not at its best performance.
I started working out, a bit of aerobics and a bit of weight training.
I, personally, dislike the gym. Maybe it's where I live, South
Florida, but it seems as people are not at the gym to just work
out. It seems the gym has become a place to socialize as well.
That makes me uncomfortable. Again, that's my personal opinion.
It was uneasy as well as boring to me. So I decided to make exercising
fun. I love being outdoors, and even though I almost melt when
outdoors in Florida, it can be a lot of fun. I bought roller blades.
I bought a treadmill. I bought small weights. I alternate. I love
variety! Some days I work out on my treadmill, sometimes I take
a walk around the neighborhood, sometimes I roller blade, sometimes
I walk on the beach (this is very effective type of exercise,
you'll definitely feel it in your leg muscles), or I go to the
gym! What interests you?
Exercising
is essential. The more muscle mass your body builds, the more
fat you're burning while sitting down on the couch watching TV!
The more active you are, the healthier you are. Exercising is
good for your heart (cardiovascular aerobics), body, and soul.
When exercising for over 20 minutes, your body releases a certain
amount of endorphins, releasing any negative and/or stored energy.
I cannot find one disadvantage in exercising.
Again,
exercising does not mean you have to go to the gym and work out
for 2 hours a day. It simply means "keep moving", and
work on releasing that energy!
If
you have any health issues, such as high cholesterol, high blood
pressure, diabetes, or any heart conditions, please consult your
doctor before any changes in your exercising routine.
